Vascular Lesions

Treat difficult vascular lesions with SWT® and Nd:YAG laser

Vascular lesions consist of different types, from small telangiectasias (sometimes called spider veins or broken veins) to large Port Wine Stains. Some vascular lesions are present from birth, while others develop with age, or as the result of environmental damage (such as sun exposure). Regardless of the size of the lesion, they can cause psychological trauma so strong that patients seek professional help to remove them. Historically they have been covered with make-up, while surgery has been limited to the larger vessels on the legs.

The Ellipse treatment

With the use of Ellipse Selective Waveband Technology (SWT®) we can treat even the most difficult vascular lesion successfully. The vessel supplying the lesion with blood is targeted and destroyed. Over time the vascular lesion disappears, restoring the skin’s natural appearance. Nd:YAG technology is a much more effective option for the treatment of leg veins. The built-in SoftCoolTM ensures a near pain-free treatment of leg vessels.

Advantages

For superficial lesions the Ellipse Selective Waveband Technology (SWT®) works by directing well-controlled pulses of light into the upper skin layer. The light is absorbed by haemoglobin in the blood contained in the vessels. The light energy is transformed into heat. This heat is used to damage the walls of the vessels. The combination of Ellipse Square Pulse Technology - which minimises the risk of side effects by ensuring consistent intensity of energy throughout the pulse - and Dual Mode Filtering (which eliminates unnecessary and potential harmful wavelengths, allowing only those that are beneficial to the treatment) ensures that the treatment is done without damaging the surrounding tissue, without the need for active skin cooling. With SWT® and Nd:YAG we can treat the following vascular conditions with excellent results

Treatments
Spider nevi

Also known as spider angiomas or spider telangiectasias are normally caused by a swollen vertical vessel with smaller horizontal vessels extending from the centre making it look like a spider’s web.

Keratosis pilaris / Keratosis follicularis

Most often appears on the back and on the outside of the upper arm and is sometimes mistaken for acne. It’s a genetic condition affecting the hair follicles so the skin gets a rough appearance with red bumps on lighter skin and brown bumps on darker skin.

Progressive disseminated essential telangiectasias

Is a rare skin disorder that leads to extensive erythema, especially on extremities and face, due to the gradual development and spreading of superficial telangiectasias.

Telangiectasias

Telangiectasias, also known as spider veins or angioectasias, are small dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin or mucous membranes, measuring between 0.1 and 1 mm in diameter. They commonly occur on the face, nose, chin, and cheek.

Campbell de Morgan Spot / Cherry Angiomas

Campbell de Morgan spots, also known as cherry angiomas or ruby haemangiomas or blood spots, are cherry red papules on the skin containing an abnormal proliferation of blood vessels. They occur with greater frequency as we get older, sometimes leading people to call them senile angioma. They are the most common kind of angioma and though normally present on the trunk of the body they may also occur on arms, legs and the head. They are usually no larger than about 6 mm

Leg veins and Reticular vessels

Leg veins and reticular vessels are deeper placed vessels that require a longer wavelength. Ellipse offers clinically proven and effective Nd:YAG laser treatment to remove smaller leg vessels (also called leg telangiectasias) and reticular vessels, measuring between 0.1 and 3 mm in diameter.

Port wine stain

A port wine stain, also called a nevus flammeus, is usually present from birth, while others develop with age, or as the result of environmental damage (such as sun exposure). With the use of Ellipse Selective Waveband Technology (SWT®) the vessel supplying the lesion with blood is targeted and destroyed. Over time the vascular lesion disappears, restoring the skin’s natural appearance.
